At the beginning of April, Biovoima was granted the ISO 14001:2015 certification. The ISO 14001 standard defines the resources, processes, and methods that enable an organization to demonstrate to customers and partners that it operates in an environmentally responsible way. This certification marks a strong continuation in the development of operational quality, following Biovoima’s achievement of the ISO 9001 quality management certification in December 2024.

The well-earned ISO 14001 certification applies to project management, maintenance, and engineering services for biomethane and biogas plants and technology projects, as well as production at Biovoima’s Jyväskylä facility, including sales operations. CEO Eero Tilsala sees the certification as another step toward continuous improvement and development in the company’s operations and quality—both internally and from the customer’s perspective. ISO 14001 also opens up further opportunities in international markets where environmental requirements are particularly stringent, and it helps anticipate and manage environmental risks.

“The market demands quality certifications across management, environmental responsibility, information security, and cyber threats—and we are ready to meet that demand. Achieving the ISO 9001 standard was already a major effort for the whole crew, but we were eager to move forward immediately to the next step with ISO 14001. As our production and project volume grows, we must pay even greater attention to environmental and safety aspects. Environmental issues are at the core of our business, so aligning our processes with this certification was a natural, though still demanding, step.”

“Work on our next goal, the ISO 27001 certification for information security and cyber threat management, has already been underway for some time. Our target is to complete the audit during this year. This will allow us to meet the demands of both the market and the current global situation, especially in line with the new NIS2 cybersecurity directive. At this point, we’re proud to be the only supplier of biogas and biomethane plants in Finland to hold both ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certifications—and ISO 27001 will complete the picture,” Tilsala says.

Biovoima is a turnkey partner and technology integrator for complete biomethane and biogas plant projects, plant modernization, and a technology provider for logistics and distribution solutions related to biomethane production, use, and transportation. The company also offers maintenance services for biogas plants and technologies related to the production of biogas and biomethane. In addition to Finland, Biovoima operates in other Nordic countries, the Baltics and Poland.
