Biovoima continues strong growth and expands operations to Poland

Biovoima continues its strong growth. The company's turnover and headcount doubled in the last 10 months of the financial year (1 March 2023-31 December 2023), with turnover exceeding EUR 7 million and the number of employees increasing to more than two dozen. For the current financial year, Biovoima is targeting a turnover of more than EUR 15 million and will also continue to recruit staff.

Biovoima has decided to expand into the Polish market, where there is strong demand for renewable biogas and biomethane. To date, Biovoima has been active not only in Finland but also in Norway and the Baltic countries.

High demand for biomethane in Poland

Poland has been heavily dependent on natural gas from Russia in the past. Due to the geopolitical situation, there is a strong need for Poland to invest in its own biogas production, and above all in biomethane. Biomethane is refined from biogas, the process removes the carbon dioxide in the biogas and the final product is biomethane with a chemical composition similar to natural gas. Biogas can be produced from organic waste, agricultural manure and by-products, food-derived biowaste and sewage sludge, for example.

The green transition is also strongly creating demand for Biovoima's products and services, as Poland seeks to replace coal with environmentally friendly and sustainable forms of energy production. Agricultural emission standards are also creating demand for biogas and biomethane production.

“We have been following and researching the Polish market for some time. The potential there is enormous and now the political will seems to be there to make the necessary legislative changes. We have developed our own technology solutions specifically targeting the Polish market”, Biovoima Sales Director Jani Kangasaho comment.

Know-how and proprietary technology for Poland

In line with its growth strategy, Biovoima is strengthening its activities in Poland by investing in local knowledge and partnerships. With long experience in the biogas sector, the Polish company Przemyslaw Kowalski has started as a sales engineer for Biovoima and is also exploring additional resources. The company sees significant potential in providing energy solutions and expertise based on biogas and biomethane production in the Polish market.

Kowalski sees great potential for Biovoima in Poland. ”Poland has one of the largest biomethane potentials in the EU. However, right now, biogas production is non-existent. Biovoima has the necessary experience and resources to change the situation and help customers benefit from new and sustainable ways of using biogas. I want to use my expertise and network to contribute to the implementation of biogas solutions in target markets such as agriculture, municipal waste and wastewater treatment and the heating sector. Biogas is a step towards sustainability and flexibility. Biogas can be upgraded not only to biomethane, but also to compressed natural gas (CNG) or BioLNG. These will increase transport use and the construction of virtual gas pipelines. Hydrogen production from biowaste is already on the horizon. In the era of extreme energy sources such as solar or wind, biogas will provide much-needed stability in energy supply. Biovoima has what it takes: a clear vision, the support and confidence of a great team, and a pragmatic and creative approach to solutions.”

Poland is expected to need thousands of biogas plants in the coming years. Biovoima offers complete biogas and biomethane plant solutions, especially for the treatment of agricultural, separately collected biowaste and various organic side streams. In addition to complete plant projects, the Polish market has a strong demand for Biovoima's own product development solutions, such as gas processing, point-of-use integration and gas logistics solutions. In line with the sustainability and life-cycle model of the plant and technology solutions, maintenance and operation services are also offered to customers.

Biovoima is a full-service partner and technology integrator for complete biogas plant projects, plant modernisation, and logistics and distribution solutions for biomethane transmission.
