New export contracts for Biovoima: Biogas logistics and point-of-use solutions for Iceland and Latvia

New export contracts for Biovoima: Biogas logistics and point-of-use solutions for Iceland and Latvia

Biovoima has contracted to supply biomethane logistics to Reykjavik, Iceland. Sorpa, the company responsible for waste management in the Reykjavik area, ordered the gas containers and produces biomethane from separately collected bio-waste. Sorpa is an existing customer of Biovoima, which has twice before ordered similar solutions from Biovoima for the transport of biomethane to different locations and was obviously satisfied with the cooperation. With this additional investment, Sorpa is responding to the growing demand for biomethane in Iceland.

High pressure now ordered gas containers are a cost-effective solution for transporting biomethane for gas use outside the biogas plant, for example to a gas refuelling station, for process energy production for industrial companies using biomethane or for feeding into the natural gas grid. Under pressure, the gas is compressed by a factor of 250-300.

SORPA is owned by six municipalities; Reykjavík, Kópavogur, Hafnarfjörður, Garðabær, Mosfellsbær and Seltjarnarnes. SORPA is responsible for waste management in the region and thus also fulfils the legal obligations of the municipalities. It includes the operation of a reception and sorting plant, a landfill, a gas and natural gas plant and six recycling plants operated under a service contract with the municipalities.

BM Holding of Latvia has ordered a biomethane network feed solution from Biovoima. The largest biogas producer in Latvia is investing in grid connection containers to meet the growing demand and production of biomethane in the Baltic region. The Baltic countries have a high level of gas consumption and have been among the first to close natural gas pipelines from Russia. In a changed global context, substitute, and at the same time more environmentally friendly, solutions are now being developed at a rapid pace.  Network connectivity container solution allows the quality and pressure of the biomethane to be precisely adjusted to the requirements of the network, enabling biogas to be fed into the natural gas network. The Biovoiman solution also provides reliable gas dispersion and quantity measurement.

BM Holding is part of Anaerobic Holding. Anaerobic Holding owns biogas plants in Latvia with a combined capacity of 4.9 MW. The biogas plants produce electricity and heat from renewable energy sources. Anaerobic Holding is committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and to the environmentally friendly use of organic waste.
