Biovoima to supply biogas plant in Norway

Biovoima has signed a significant biogas plant deal worth almost €20 million in Norway. When completed, the plant will process 15,000 tonnes per year of biowaste from the Bergen Economic Area and 40,000 tonnes of cattle slurry. The end product will be biomethane, which will replace fossil fuels in industry. As a by-product, biofertiliser suitable for soil improvement is also produced.

The plant was invested by BIR AS, one of Norway's largest waste management companies, responsible for the waste management of nearly 400 000 inhabitants in seven municipalities in the Bergen conurbation.

According to Aslak Sverdrup, Chairman of the Board of Directors of BIR AS, Biovoima submitted the best bid overall. “We have carried out very thorough studies of biogas plants in the Nordic countries and have also visited a number of plants that use the same technology as the one we have now commissioned. The Biovoima will provide us with a forward-looking, innovative total solution, and in our selection we have placed particular emphasis on the fact that the unit will be able to provide us with high quality biogas, but also that the requirements for biofertiliser must be at a cleaner level than current regulations require of us. The overall solution we offer will also enable us to ensure good profitability in the long term. This project is strategically important for BIR AS and is also in line with the Group's strategy.”

The largest deal in Biovoima's history provides opportunities to continue investing in growth. Biovoima's CEO Eero Tilsala is pleased with the agreement. ”We have invested significantly in the company's growth, and our goal is to be the largest company in Northern Europe and the Baltic region, which will create the opportunity for our customers to replace Russian natural gas with green gas. We have a number of projects on the table in the final stages of negotiations and we will certainly be announcing new plant deliveries in the near future.”

”The confidence we have received from the Norwegians shows that Finnish environmental technology expertise is of high quality and is in very high demand internationally. However, growth requires capital and resources - let's hope that such things will not be an obstacle to future growth.” Tilsala underlines.

Jani Kangasaho, Biovoima's Sales Director, describes the agreement as significant for Biovoima. ”The first contacts with the customer were made a few years ago, so our investment in the Norwegian market and customer relationship management is now paying off. The final procurement process for the customer was handled in a very professional manner, and it also required a lot from the Biovoima staff. I very much appreciate our staff and the way the client discussed and carried out such a procurement process. ” Kangasaho stresses.

The design of the plant will start immediately, with construction and installation of equipment to start in the first half of 2024. The biogas plant will be ready for operation in early 2026. In Norway, requirements for separate collection of bio-waste will provide a significant impetus for the construction of similar plants in the future.
