The first Biovoiman grid connection container was delivered to the customer (Biometaan OÜ) in Viljandi, Estonia in October 2019. The solution helped to enable the sale of gas from an existing biogas plant to the grid company, where previously it had only been utilised locally. In practice, the access to gas will increase significantly as the natural gas network will reach a significant number of industrial companies and consumers. The grid connection container will allow the refined biogas to be depressurised and fed into the natural gas network with a capacity of 300 Nm3/h and will be equipped with flow measurement and control automation.
For feeding biomethane into the natural gas grid, the Biovoima's proprietary manufacturing includes a containerised solution - a grid connection container - to precisely regulate the pressure of the biomethane to be fed to the grid to meet the requirements of the grid and feed the gas into the grid. The grid connection container also allows for gas scrubbing and the measurement of the quality and quantity of commercially supplied gas and billing the grid company accordingly.
The gas can be fed into the grid immediately after biogas processing or transported to the container either by pipeline or by high-pressure transfer container. The grid connection container can also be used for pressure reduction in applications other than grid gas injection.
