The Voss biomethane plant in Norway has reached the final stage of mechanical and electrical installations. Commissioning has started and the aim is to start the biogas process later this year. The plant has been invested in by BIR AS, one of Norway's largest waste management companies.

The plant treats 15 000 tonnes of organic municipal and household waste from the Bergen conurbation and 40 000 tonnes of livestock manure every year. The end product is biomethane, which replaces fossil fuels in transport and industry. As a by-product, the process also generates hygienised digestate suitable for use as organic biofertiliser.
