Gas compression

To improve portability, the gas can be pressurised into a highly compact transport form.

Gas compression is the most typical way to improve gas portability

Biomethane, i.e. refined biogas or natural gas, can be compressed for use or transport up to 300 bar, but typically up to 250 bar. Compression reduces the volume of the gas and thus improves its mobility.

Compression solutions

CNG/CBG
  • Compressors for mother stations, i.e. compressors that deliver gas from the natural gas network or biogas processing facilities directly to the gas refuelling station. Typically, the inlet pressure is 3-16 bar and the outlet pressure 250-275 bar.
  • Compressors for subsidiary stations, i.e. gas refuelling stations to which natural gas or biomethane is delivered under pressure. At these stations, the highest pressures are transferred directly from storage to the car's tank, and only part of the gas passes through the compressor at a wide pressure range.

When referring to compressed forms of natural gas and biogas, the abbreviations CNG and CBG are often used. These correspond to the English terms Compressed natural gas and Compressed biogas.

Feeding biomethane into the gas grid
  • Compressors for feeding biomethane into the natural gas network. Typically, gas distribution networks are 4-16 bar and large transmission lines 20-60 bar.
Pressurisation of the natural gas network
  • Compressors for pressurising the natural gas network when the gas is connected to the network or when the network pressure needs to be increased.
Technical gases
  • Custom-made oil-free compressors for the most typical technical gases such as air, carbon dioxide or nitrogen.

All solutions can be supplied as a single compressor or as a complete solution with the compressor, electrical and automation systems and, if required, the gas cylinders in a single weatherproof container.
